Aberystwyth Old Student’s Association was represented at the launch of the European Opportunities Fund by Vice President Julie Finch on Thursday 25th November 2021.
The event, hosted by Vice Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Treasure, saw a limited audience of staff, alumni, students, and members of the local community come together to celebrate the launch of this remarkable and valued fund.
The European Opportunities Fund has been made possible by an extremely generous donation by alumnus William Parker, who has seen for himself the value of travel in enriching the opportunities - cultural, linguistic and professional - that travel abroad can bring to young people. The launch of this fund comes at a critical time, following the decision by the UK government to not continue with the EU's Erasmus scheme, and following the announcement of the New International Learning Exchange programme for students in Wales.
Likening it to "an expresso coffee stimulus", this new programme will complement existing placement opportunities by funding short visits of anything from 3 days to a few weeks for students wishing to attend conferences or to take part in short-term placements, volunteering or other activities that will help to develop them.
The OSA are delighted that this valuable opportunity will be available to students and were pleased to be able to celebrate the launch with students, staff and alumni.
